Nodeler

BETA

Remote Control Web Service...

Nodeler is developing a universal game controller that will offer you the ability to pair the controller with any networked application, from a game on an iPad to a movie or music player running in a web browser.

Utilizing the Nodeler web service games and applications can be paired with "Nodetrollers" without special OS drivers or device access which enables it to work on restricted devices like iPhones and iPads.

For an example of what the above means, check out our prototype, networked Atari joystick being used to play Pacman in a web browser.

Currently there are 4 "Nodes" that use the API:

Nodeler for Rdio

This extension allows you to play, pause, next, previous, and mute the Rdio player running in Chrome via a Nodetroller.
Install the Chrome extension

Once the extension is installed visit Rdio in Chrome and then click this icon (the first time it will ask you to grant access to your account).

Now you can visit the Nodeler home page from another computer or device and select Nodetroller from the menu to control the Rdio player.

Nodeler for Amazon Video

This extension allows you to play, pause, skip forward, and skip backward while watch the Amazon Video player running in Chrome via a Nodetroller.
Install the Chrome extension

Once the extension is installed visit Amazon Video in Chrome, start watching a video you want to watch, and then click this icon (the first time it will ask you to grant access to your account).

UPDATE: You can also visit the mini mode Amazon player where pressing the Nodetroller's menu button will present you with a list of your videos.

Now you can visit the Nodeler home page from another computer or device and select Nodetroller from the menu to control the Amazon Video player.

NOTE: that the Chrome Extension will reload the Amazon Video player and disable the normal controls. This is necessary because Amazon does not expose an API for skipping forward and backward with their regular player. We were lucky enough to find out a way to enable skipping by changing to an embedded player mode. If you want the video to be full screen double click the video after you have loaded Nodeler.

Nodeler Remote Keyboard for Chrome

This extension allows you to input keyboard commands via a Nodetroller into any web site it's enabled on.
Install the Chrome extension

Once the extension is installed visit a web site you want to remote control using Chrome and then click this icon (the first time it will ask you to grant access to your account). Try this HTML5 Pacman game.

Now you can visit the Nodeler home page from another computer or device and select Nodetroller from the menu to control the web page.

NOTE: the web version of the Nodetroller is not fast enough to play Pacman. An iPhone native app and Arduino hardware solution is in progress which improves the speed.

Nodeler Pacman

We've modified Dale Harvey's excellent HTML5 Pacman app to work with Nodeler. Just visit this page and then fire up a Nodetroller on another device to play the game. You can even run this demo on your iPad and control the game from an iPhone! Although mobile Safari on the iPad is too slow to be useable it demonstates what's could be possible if Nodeler were used inside a native app or in the future when devices are faster.

Watch this video for an explanation of what Nodeler is and to see how the Chrome Extensions work.
